Ideas?

So, since YK&MC ended, Mahou-X and we will --eventually -- catch up to and finish the manga. After that, a few of the core members of Yankee Goon scans, including me, want to continue scanlating. We're interested in good, but little-known or dropped manga, like YK&MC was a couple of years ago before it started getting quite popular among the online manga fan community.

We were wondering if you readers had any ideas or suggestions to toss out. Personally I've had my eye on Hana No Asukagumi, as I'm kind of interested in doing more manga with a yankees/delinquents-with-a-heart-of-gold theme. But I'm open to pretty much anything that's not-creepy and seemingly forgotten, these sorts of "hidden gems".

  2. I really enjoy Barakamon. Bliss is doing that series but they make very little visible progress, and it doesn't seem to be their priority series though.

  4. Renai Kaidan sayoko-san: http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=48943
Monthly manga that's still fairly new, so it's hard to predict where it will go, but so far it's been very interesting and enjoyable. No releases in 5 months suggests the scanlators dropped it.

  5. What about super dreadnought girl 4946?
As far as I know nobody continued translating it and the chapter only comes out once a month.
Even though it's really different compared to YK&MC since it's more sci-fi than daily (real?) life.

  6. Super Dreadnaught Girl 4946 is a giantess fetish manga for creepy people with a giantess fetish, so no.

  7. Howbout Shikabane Hime? Dynasty have only released 18 Chapters, and their release schedule imho sucks (3-4 months between chapters)

or Rideback? Semi-sports manga with fightan. Had an anime a few years back, though I've no idea how well it followed the manga (Complete at 10 Volumes, only scanned to vol 2 ch 7)

Those are the only ones I can think of atm..

  21. Yeah, according to this: http://hiwamatanoboru.com/projects/

    They're still doing Gintama.

  23. Robot (Manga title)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Maybe "Kurosagi"?

It has already finished, but scanlated only to chapter 37. Although another group recently picked it up, but who knows how long they will last (also, their quality is not very good so far).

  25. ohhh durarara is a good one
    !!!

  26. How about cuticle detective inaba or ookami-san to shichinin no chuugentachi. They both only have 1 chapter scanlated but they are interesting. You would have to read them to see their awesomeness, they are both promising. Since you could find them on mangafox and actually read them that assures they aren't licensed.

  27. i would like to see Hammer Session! finished. both the groups doing it dropped it though so that makes me think there was a problem finding raws D:

  30. Update: time is slipping away due to returning to education and a potential job, so it'll take a while longer before I can learn to clean...

Didn't wanna post till I found a manga, but an old one I stalled(due to Village Idiot Scans having to stall it I think) was "Go! Tenba Cheerleaders". Stars a delinquent trying to fix his ways or something like that. It's a comedy adventure. There is fanservice, but not copious amounts of it. I think VI scans seem to want to continue it, but they're in need of both a translator and a cleaner for it (along with all of their other projects).

  32. Guys, sorry to be negative with every post--Haven't had time to check out all the others you've all recommended -- just want to point something out: Our translator team are all female, and have specifically stated that they do not want to translate any mangas with fanservice/ecchi material, so please do not recommend them for us. Thanks!

Hammer Session and Heaven!! seem pretty cool. I'll run it by them.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei - A lot of the translated chapters are spread all over the place. Would be nice to get chapters translated in order.

    ReplyDelete
  34. You guys could try and finish Crows, the current group that was doing it hasn't been heard from since January when they said they'd keep doing releases. It's a delinquent manga, and theres no fanservice/ecchi material. Well, there is pretty much no females to be seen in the series aside from a few panels lol. Last release was 217 days ago. Pretty much about youths and their love for fighting.

    ReplyDelete
  35. SZS would be a bitch with all the little extra cultural stuff. Crows-- now that'd be a good idea. I like that manga.

  39. Another deliquent manga you could work on is Shonan Junai Gumi, the prequel to Great Teacher Onizuka. It's rather long and so far scans only cover about half of the 30 or so volumes.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Gunslinger Girl hasn't been updated in awhile, not too long though so yea. Acony also hasn't been updated in awhile and there's only like 1 volume to translate.
I agree with the above post about Shonan Junai Gumi. That should be scanlated.

    ReplyDelete
  41. second shonan junai gumi its definitely a good one to pick

    ReplyDelete
  45. I wish you could translate Coppelion as only 2 from 11 volumes are translated (RAWs are available) and manga is still ongoing. I rly enjoyed reading this manga ;]

  50. Well, the only manga that I can see that actually seems a bit like YM is probably D-Frag!. It's actually quite funny, and it involves a high school setting, delinquents, romance, comedy, and a group of random but awesome characters, much like YM.

  57. Hey, how about Junai Tokkou Taichou!? It's quite interesting, funny, delinquency, got romance in it and no one is continuing with translating and I've been waiting for aaaages. The chapter ends at volumne 6.
    http://www.mangafox.com/manga/junai_tokkou_taichou/

    Here's the summary.

Chiemi Yusa's high-school record is far from perfect. She's already been suspended twice for fighting, and she's not even half-way through her first year! In danger of getting expelled for starting yet another brawl, her teacher approaches her with an unexpected offer: get her classmate Akifumi Deranged Devil Hirata, the nastiest fighter in the whole school, to clean up his act, and her record will officially be cleared. Reluctantly she accepts, and immediately goes on the attack. But as she's waiting for him to retaliate, she discovers that he has more in store for her than just a fight! From the creator of Girl Got Game and Heaven!! comes a rollicking brawl of a good time as the roughest guy and girl in school get themselves into trouble--and find themselves in love.

  58. Oh, forgot to say that you can read the first two chapters if you find it interesting, but if you are not, then it's fine, you don't have to. Also it's not ecchi that's for sure ^^

    ReplyDelete
  59. How about Ransetsuki? No ecchi, and it's Action, Drama, Martial Arts, Supernatural. The scanlation team who's doing it is planning to drop it.

  67. Gekka Bijin would be a good one. It's a monthly shonen manga that has awesome characters and art but no one has done any more translations for it in quite a while. It's only been running for about a year so there aren't too many chapters to go through in order to catch up.

    ReplyDelete
  68. May I suggest "Pastel"? It's a pretty good story, quite interesting. It's currently a Noobiesnack project, but they seem to be dropping it soon.

    ReplyDelete

    YES X3!!!!

Pastel is awesome. The only way to describe it would be:

Pastel. Awesome. I jizzed my pants. 'nough said.

  71. How come no one mentioned Cromartie High School? ( http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=1340 )

    ReplyDelete
  72. I find the lack of cromartie disturbing

    ReplyDelete
  73. I might note that you might be getting slightly ahead of yourself already planning new things when there's still so much to do on this series and also there hasn't been any for months now.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Maybe you guys can do Rabuyan since no groups have picked it up and the ones that did dropped it. There hasn't been a new chapter in , i think, almost a year which breaks my heart.

    ReplyDelete
  75. How about JIN? It's about a modern-day brain surgeon who travels back in time to the Meiji era. No one's ever scanlated the manga, but it was the basis of two super-popular live-action series. The characters and situations are interesting, the storyline intriguing.

    From mangaupdates
"This is a story about an otaku that turns out to be the leader of a bunch of delinquents, but he's hiding his true self. His goal, get a girlfriend who resembles his anime characters. "

I can definitely see you guys transitioning to thus from Yankee, they have same "feel" to it. Read a couple chapters in, I'm sure you'll like it.

The entire thing is only 4 volumes long, the group that is scanlating it have translated Volume and around 3/4 of volume 2. They have had this project on hold for nearly 4 months now, and they don't seem to be able to pull the people to start it up again. Perhaps a joint?

  82. Kotaro Makaritoru (and its sequels Shin Kotaro Makaritoru & Shin Kotaro Makaritoru L) is a series from the 80s which has action, hilarity, romance/bromance, and crazy epic high-school martial arts battles with gangs/delinquents/other clubs. May not be your translators' cup of tea tho (main character is a super-perv) but the series is relatively tame by today's standards. Has been stalled since 2004.
